Xàbia has presented a proposal for a credit modification of some 8.68 million euros to the Comisión de Hacienda which will be used to strengthen areas of the municipal budget for expenses. The modification, which received a unanimous favourable opinion from the commission, will be debated for approval at an extraordinary plenary session to be held on Monday 21st August at 12.30pm.

Teresa Legay, councillor for Finance and Contracting, explained that it has been possible to present this proposal for debate at the plenary session due to the formal closure of the 2022 budget which had been pending since March. This mandatory procedure was concluded last week, releasing the remaining balance of funds with which this modification of the extended budget for 2022 will be financed.

The councillor added that, of the 8.68 million euros, some 4.9 million euros will be allocated to current spending on goods and services (such as the 600,000 euros for street lighting and the increase in fees for waste treatment.

Another 3.32 million euros will be allocated to real investments such as 211,500 euros to resume the works on the Camí Castellans sewage network, 250,000 euros to acquire property from the right of first refusal for the Generalitat Valenciana, and 141,000 euros for the settlement of various invoices related to the stabilization of Casa Candelaría. In addition, an important injection of funds is required to complete the construction of the municipal swimming pool whilst a credit reserve of 100,000 euros will be put aside to evaluate the condition of the auditorium structure.

Finally, some 455,000 euros is required to meet obligations to different consortiums of which Xàbia is party, such as the Fire Department and UNED of Dénia.
