RADAR COVID APP NOW FULLY OPERATIONAL IN THE VALENCIAN REGION

Ximo Puig, President of the Generalitat Valenciana, has requested that citizens in the region download the APP to make the system more effective and help combat the spread of the infection.

The regional health department has confirmed that the Radar COVID mobile phone application is fully operational in the Comunidad Valenciana. It is now available from the APP Store for iOS phones and from Google Play for Android phones and is available in English.

When downloaded, the application will alert the user of any possible contact that they may have had in the last seven days with a person who has registered positive for the COVID-19 virus using low-power Bluetooth technology. It is 100% anonymous and doesn’t ask for any personal details.

It works by a 12-digit code which those who have tested positive can obtain from the Ministry of Health (link below) to input into the application. Those who are in proximity to someone who has tested positive will receive an alert on their phone to notify them that they may be close to someone who tested positive by PCR test and advise that they should monitor themselves to see if they develop symptoms over the next ten days.

The app also gives advise of how to maintain safety measures and social distancing protocols as well as what action to take if the user starts showing symptoms.

As always, personal privacy is of concern and the developers assure users that the app neither collects any personal details (name, address, phone number, etc.) nor does it collect any geolocation data including any GPS data. Therefore, neither the user’s identity nor that of the people that the user has been with can be determined.

Ximo Puig, President of the Generalitat Valenciana, has requested that citizens in the region download the APP to make the system more effective and help combat the spread of the infection.
