There are just three months until the 2024 edition of the FOGUERES DE SANT JOAN, arguably the biggest party of the year in Xàbia, which is going to be extra special for it will be marking the 75th anniversary of these special celebrations.

For the past few months, the Fogueres Commission has been working with the Department of Fiestas and a special 75 year commission to put together a complete programme of events to mark the occasion, and this week the councillor responsible for Fiestas, Mavi Pérez (CPJ), and the treasurer of the Fogueres Commission, David Cordero, revealed some of the acts that will complement the usual programme after an extraordinary meeting of fiesta officials.

It has been confirmed that the 75th anniversary will feature three presentations, two flower offerings, two float parades, a day dedicated to marking this special milestone, and four concerts.

The formal presentations will be taking place over the weekend of June 7th-9th with the junior presentation taking place on Friday 7th, the presentation of Quintà 2024 ‘A Cabassaes’ on the evening of Saturday 8th, and a special 75th anniversary presentation on Sunday 9th. All three presentations will include the traditional parade from the Plaza de la Iglesia to the Plaza de la Constitución.

In the evening, there will be a special 75th anniversary flower offering in which all the previous queens and ladies-in-waiting will be participating, parading from the Plaza Marina Alta-Correos to the church. Afterwards, there will be a community dinner in the Plaza de la Constitución for all the 75th anniversary officials and guests. At midnight, there will be a colourful mascletà to close this special day.

However, the officials made it clear that this special anniversary will not only been marked during these two weeks of fiesta in June but will also be done so during the fiestas honouring the image of Jesús Nazareno, where there will be a workshop on creating the characteristic xabiera hairstyle during the first days of the month May whilst there will be an exhibition of costumes from the history of Xàbia on Tuesday 30th April in the marquee that will be erected on Plaza de la Constitución.

In addition, there will be a special exhibition about the history of the Fogueres de Sant Joan which will open in the first week of June in the Centre d’Arts Lambert in Carrer Major featuring a video and photos of the evolution of the celebrations. Interested parties can contribute photos from any moment in the history of the fiesta and are asked to do so by March 31st.
