Tuesday 18th May 2021 – PRESS RELEASE with Mike Smith
Xàbia Council, in agreement with the Fogueres Commission, has decided to postpone the celebrations of the Fogueres de Sant Joan to 2022 after a series of meetings with the quintos of 2020.
The Department of Fiestas have previously been considering moving this year’s celebration to October and had been holding several meetings with the young people of Quintà 2020 who would be the main protagonists of the festivities, the occasion effectively marking their coming of age.
However, it was the youngsters themselves who rejected this option due to the fact that, according to the latest information issued by the Generalitat Valenciana in reference to the famous Fallas and other popular fiestas, the programme would need to be conditioned to the health situation at the time and would have to exclude acts that would involve the gathering of people.
The quintos organised an internal vote and 85% expressed a preference to wait until June 2022 and this enjoy the fiestas, arguably the biggest party of the year in Xàbia, in a better situation.
Thus, the Department of Fiestas officially removes the proposal of planning a limited celebration in October and will now start working with the Fogueres Commission to organize the 2022 edition during which three quintàs will be sharing the limelight.
And what a party that should be …
