CAM XÀBIA ORCHESTRA FINISHES RUNNER-UP IN REGIONAL CONTEST

The group performed in the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in the city of Valencia

Last Sunday, the orchestra of the Centre Artístic Musical de Xàbia (CAM) took part in the 5th Caixabank Contest for Orchestras of the Comunidad Valenciana at the prestigious Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in the city of Valencia, an event organised by the Federation of Musical Societies in the region (FSMCV) in collaboration with Caixabank and the Generalitat Valenciana.

The orchestra from Xàbia demonstrated the high standard of its musicians with a repertoire that included Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major K313, during which Carme Català performed the solo, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 26 in D minor, both under the direction of Joan Bou.

The entourage that travelled to the regional capital was led by mayoress Rosa Cardona, accompanied by councillor Mavi Pérez (Culture) and the president of CAM Xàbia, Juan Antonio Sapena, former president Manolo Berenguer, as well as family and friends of the musicians.

The xabieros finished as runners-up behind the strong group of the Symphony Orchestra of the Sociedad Instructiva Unió Musical de Tavernes de la Valldigna but went away from the event with the pride of having performed in this contest and knowing that the group’s musicians are on the path of excellence. The group also expressed their enormous pleasure of being able to perform at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, arguably the best auditorium in the Comunidad Valenciana.
