The underwater depths around the Island of Portitxol do not cease to reveal its immeasurable past as a port of rest for the Mediterranean. The archaeological investigation that is currently being carried out in the area is bringing to the surface surprising finds that enhance the historical heritage of the municipality.

Aware of the important value that this project has and the general interest of residents, an informative talk has been organized to publicize the details of the study that began more than a year ago with the collaboration of the University of Alicante.

This Friday 3rd December at 8.00 pm at the Casa de la Cultura in Plaça del Baix, Dr. Jaime Molina and Dr. J.A. Moya, the team of archaeologists which are coordinating the project, along with dive archaeologists Alejandro Pérez and Jordi Blázquez as well as Ximo Bolufer, director of the Museu Soler Blasco de Xàbia, will be presenting the latest findings.

The conference, entitled El Portitxol: un área antigua de anclaje, will address the recently verified history of the port located in the shelter of l’Illa and which has brought to light the greatest concentration of ancient anchors in the Mediterranean with finds of different types from Roman, Phoenician, Andalusian and Byzantine eras.
