XÀBIA’S MUNICIPAL ARCHIVE ATTRACTED MORE THAN 16,000 ONLINE VISITS IN 2023

The centre also attended to more than 1,100 physical queries during last year.

The Muncipal Archive in Xàbia attended to more than 1,120 physical queries during 2023, according to an annual review provided by the municipal archivist Juanjo Mas Cruañes and presented to the councillor responsible for Culture, Mavi Pérez (CPJ).

Of these queries, 250 were internal, the different departments of the town hall requesting the archive for information, documents or files to support administrative procedures, whilst the rest – 874 – were external, resident requests for information through the town’s electronic office, telephone, email, or in person. The report also revealed that there were more than 16,200 visits to the online archive – Els Papers de l’Arxiu – which can be accessed via this link.

Juanjo Más added that the archive received several donations throughout 2023, including a certificate in parchment donated by the García-Casabó family dating back to 1708 which was signed by the archivist of the parish church, and a document dated 1838 with a list of residents who paid the appropriate taxes in fruit and cash. The archivist expressed his gratitude to those residents who have donated documents and photographs with the municipal archive so that they can be enjoyed by future generations.

For 2024, Más explained that the challenge is for the implementation of a digital archive. Since 2015, when digital administration was first launched, more than 100,000 digital files have been integrated into the administrative management platform, documents that will soon be transferred to the Digital Municipal Archive.

Councillor Pérez added her own thanks for the donations from residents who have considered that the Municipal Archive as being the most appropriate place for the conservation of historical documents about Xàbia as well as the work of the archive as the “custodian of all our history”.
