THE ARTS SOCIETY MA PRESENTS LECTURE ON MOORISH ARCHITECTURE

The lecture will take place on Wednesday 31st January at the Casa de la Cultura.

The Arts Society Marina Alta kicks off its 2024 season of lectures with an evening dedicated to the classical origins that influenced the Moorish style, a comprehensive introduction to the Iberian peninsula’s Moorish architecture, a lecture entitled “Moorish Architecture: The Legacy of a Vanished Kingdom”.

The lecture will be given by Ian Cockburn, an art historian who specialises in the nearly 800 years of Moorish occupation and Christian reconquest of medieval Iberia. He is the founder and director of an arts company, specialising in guided cultural tours in Spain, whilst also lecturing in London at institutions such as the V&A, SOAS, Christies Education, and the London Art History Society.

The lectures will take place on Wednesday 31st January at the Salones Canor in Teulada at 11.00am (registration and coffee at 10.10am) which will be followed by complimentary refreshments, and at the Casa de Cultura in Plaça del Baix in the heart of the historic centre at 7.30pm (doors open at 6.45pm). Both lectures are priced at 15 euros for guests but are free for members of The Arts Society and seats can be booked in advance by contacting the Arts Society by email at marinaalta@theartssociety.org.
