WORK TO FINALLY RESUME ON THIVIERS PARK AFTER 14 MONTHS OF PARALYSIS

A credit modification has allocated some 250,000 euros to finally complete the renovation project.

Work is to resume on remodelling project of the Parque Reina Sofia in Thiviers in the first quarter of 2024 after the local council announced that it would allocate some 250,000 euros to complete the task that was abandoned by contractors in October 2022.

UTE Parque Jávea initially won the contract to reform the park for just over 290,000 euros but just weeks into the project, which involved a complete facelift of the square as well as the creation of a new children’s play area, it requested both a modification to the plans as well as a price revision, both of which were rejected by the local council. Work should have been completed by early July 2022. At the time, mayor José Chulvi said that failure to do so would result in the termination of the contract and legal approval was finally given in March 2023 with 70% of the project finished.

For 14 months, local residents and businesses have demanded that the project be resumed and that the work be completed so that the park becomes a place to enjoy once again. Finally, the local executive (PP-CPJ-VOX) accepted the responsibility and, after a credit modification to the local budget, it announced that 250,000 euros would be allocated to do so, with work resuming early in 2024.

A new tender process to find a new contractor to complete the project will start in January with the intention of awarding the task within a few months which will mean that this popular green area in the heart of Thiviers will finally be finished at a cost of around 500,000 euros, significantly more than the initial budget which was set at 379,000 euros.

This investment has been possible due to a credit modification of more than 7.5 million euros approved in November to provide funding to resume paralysed projects and promote those which have been delayed as well as create a new municipal office in the Arenal and improve medical care in the same zone.
