RUBBISH BINS FINALLY RECEIVE FOOT PEDALS FOR EASIER OPENING

Two easy opening methods will be assessed to determine to best one for the residents needs.

The Department of Services in Xàbia and TETMA, the company responsible for waste collection and street cleaning, have installed some rubbish bins with foot pedals as well as another easy-opening method in different parts of the municipality, mainly in the three urban centres, to make it easier for residents to open them and deposit their waste.

This week, mayoress Rosa Cardona, and the councillor responsible for the Elderly, Fátima Jarjor, tested the operation of one of these adapted bins, which has been fitted with a foot pedal, whilst others have been fitted with an automatic opening system which opens the lid when the waste bag is pushed against it. Both methods will be assessed over the next few weeks to determine the one that best adapts to the needs of the resident.

The mayoress explained that almost 40 of these adapted containers will be distributed at different points in the three urban centres where they will be used by the older members of the community who have the most difficulty when depositing their rubbish bags. She also acknowledged the work of TETMA to find a solution in response to a request from the local executive in the summer.
