The Volta a Peu de Xàbia “Memorial José Albi” opens the circuit ‘Peu de la Marina Alta’

Club Llebeig surrounds the competition in a festive atmosphere with musical background at various points along the route.

The 2023 edition of the Volta a Peu de Xàbia ‘José Albi Memorial’ will be a fiesta this year. The popular running race, celebrating its 34th edition, will once again be the opening scoring race for the ‘Circuit de la Marina Alta’ and promises a great atmosphere for both the participants and the public centred around the Palau d’Esports Miguel Buigues in the port as well as several points along the route.

The race will take place on Sunday 26th February with the absolute race starting at 10.00am and covered ten kilometres of coast between the port and La Caleta – a round trip – offered a flat a fast course to cover. At 12 noon, the children’s races will take place around the Palau d’Esports Migues Buigues where the Filà Pirates de Sant Jaume will set up a bar providing food and drink.

The organisers Club d’Atletisme Llebeig de Xàbia confirmed that it has also arranged for several live music performances -from a DJ to Colla Xirimitabs to a batukada group – to be providing entertainment along the course.

Club representatives Madelane Powell and Gina Virueña explained that, like all events promoted by the athletics club, the race will be without plastics and with healthy supplies. And they have encouraged all athletes to participate in the race, one of the friendliest on the circuit and a great opportunity to start in competitive racing.

Registration is now open via the website www.somesport.com and will remain so until 12 noon on Friday 24th February. Schoolchildren can register through their schools as a trophy will be on offer for the centre with the greatest participation.

Both councillor Alberto Tur (Sports) and the mayor José Chulvi thanked the athletics club for the enthusiasm in which they promote athletics in the municipality and for the professionalism with which they organise each competition. They also invited the people of Xàbia to come to the port for enjoy the atmosphere and cheer on the participants in the race.
