The Provincial Council of Alicante has reported that it has increased the funding to replace the artificial grass pitches at local football grounds by more than 30%, the pot increasing from three million to four million euros to cover all the requests presented by the municipalities in the province.

The plenary session of the provincial council approved the credit modification that will allow the injection of an addition million euros to the initiative which aims to improves sports infrastructure in the province.

The responsible provincial councillor, Eduardo Dolón, explained that “thanks to this increase of one million euros, we will reach practically all the municipalities that have applied to benefit from the initiative. Only four towns will be left out for which we have already agreed to provide coverage through a new funding programme so that all town halls which have submitted an application will benefit from the aid”.

The funding, which will provide up to 95% of the budget for the work for towns with the smallest populations and up to 45% for those with the largest number of inhabitants, aims to renew the artificial grass of those pitches whose useful life has been exceeded. It also includes the transformation of dirt pitches to artificial grass; in this case all civil works must be carried out in the absence of the final installation.

This important funding package is part of the Provincial Council’s Plan +Deporte that will provide more than eleven million euros among the 141 municipalities of the province to build, expand or improve sports infrastructures as well as to renovate artificial grass football grounds.
