The awards will be presented at midday on Monday 9th October.

The plenary session of the local council approved the granted of the annual Premios 9 d’Octubre Vila de Xàbia to the renowned local sculptor Toni Marí and the Condenados al Bordillo charity association. The motion was carried with the support of the local government team (PP, CpJ and Vox) and the PSPV-PSOE; Compromís abstained.

Toni Marí
The Xabiero sculptor began his career at a very young age, first through drawing on paper and then progressing to wood and iron. He made his first sculpture at the age of 14 when he was a blacksmith’s apprentice and now, four decades later, we can enjoy his work in many corners of our town as well as beyond, sculptures that represent both the natural elements and activities of daily life.

Toni Marí has maintained his roots and carries the name of Xàbia throughout the world, associated with quality, design and prestige. He has also demonstrated his charitable side by his willingness to contribute his work with various organizations and associations in different local non-profit causes.

He is a person committed to Xàbia and the Marina Alta through his participation with the Rotary Club and has been a promoter of the ‘Compartim Comarca’ programme which defends the interested of this land.

Condenados al Bordillo
Founded in 2001, the association’s basic objective is to develop and excite different projects to improve the quality of life of people with different abilities. Much consolidated in the Marina Alta, the association carries out projects aimed at people with disabilities with the aim of enhancing all their development possibilities in an environment that is as normalized as possible.

At the moment, some 90 people with disabilities participate in various projects, including the Adapted Sports School, weekend trips, the ‘Crecer Jugando’ programme at the Raquel Payà school, therapeutic swimming, rehabilitation, and sensory stimulation, activities that are carried out with the joy and enthusiasm of the project leaders – some of whom also have disabilities – as well as a large number of volunteers.

The presentation of the awards will take place at midday on Monday 9th October – el Día de la Comunitat Valenciana – at the town hall in the heart of the historic centre.
