The Department of Citizen Participation relaunches the Advisory Councils

The Town Planning Council will be initiated on Monday 16th October.

The Department of Citizen Participation has begun to work with the delegated departments of the local government to relaunch the citizen participation in municipal politics through appointed advisory councils.

During last month’s plenary session, the reformation of the both the Cultural Council and the Tourism Council was approved whilst the Department of Urban Planning, headed by councillor Pere Sapena, has launched a public call to the representatives of the trade associations, the services sector, residents, technicians and the construction sector to established the Urban Planning and Environment Council for the new legislature 2023-2027.

The Advisory Council is a citizen participation body organised by the local council to deal with issues related to the topics they cover whilst allowing the local government to collect the opinions of the different representative sectors of the population. The sessions are public and often conclude with an opportunity for those attending to have their say.

In the case of the Town Planning Council, the department has summoned the respective representatives and interested parties from the following sectors to a meeting that will be held on Monday 16th October at 7.30pm at the OAC offices in Avenida Trenc d’Alba to designate the members of the different social groups that will make up the Plenary Session of the Council:

  1. Residents.
  2. Merchants.
  3. Builders, Property Developers, Maintenance Services
  4. Hospitality, Catering, Recreation.
  5. Architects, Engineers, Surveyors.
  6. Local Agenda 21 (Agenda 2030) and other groups such as representatives of the primary sector (agriculture, fishing and livestock), retirees, and housewives.

During the meeting, the members and alternatives will be appointed who will form the Plenary Session of the Town Planning Council and will attend the meetings which will be held periodically during the year.

The councillor responsible for Citizen Participation, Enrique Escrivà, explained that once the first meeting is held, the Advisory Councils of Xàbia “will return to functioning as they once did” and will comply with what “the statutes themselves say regarding the summoning of the sessions”.
