Young goalkeeper Josep Ivars made his first start for CD Jávea between the sticks this past weekend after it was confirmed that senior keeper Edu Samblas would be sidelined for two weeks by a hamstring injury.

Unfortunately, Ivars marked this special occasion by conceding two goals but contributed to a great team performance that resulted in a thrilling 3-2 victory for the rojiblancos against FC Atletico Benidorm.

Although he made his actual debut for the club against CF Gandía a week ago, he admitted that he was more nervous this time. However, his teammates and coach conveyed messages of support and encouragement in the days leading up to the game.

Speaking with XAD, Ivars spoke about the two important moments in the match against FC Atletico Benidorm; the penalty and the visitor’s second goal. In the first, he expressed he regrets at kicking the ball, whilst the second goal he tried to hold up the opponent but acknowledged that Benidorm’s Sami hit him hard and it was a bit of bad luck that the ball hit the post on the inside and rebounded into the net.

The young keeper, who until now has been starting with the reserve side, will be able to prove his worth in the next two games and it is clear that if the head coach trusts him then Ivars promises that he will try everything to keep his position.
