His statement claims that the error “has generated unnecessary conflict at the political and social level”.

Musical societies are declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Spain

Thursday 20th May 2021 – PRESS RELEASE with Mike Smith

The mayor of Xàbia, José Chulvi, has announced in a statement that he will propose to all groups with municipal representation that they sign an institutional declaration to support the request submitted by the Federation of Musical Societies of the Comunidad Valenciana (FSMCV) to the Ministry of Culture to rectify a sentence contained in Royal Decree 229/2021 of March 30, which states that “the origin of the Valencian bands is due to a mimetic movement to the Catalan choral groups” .

In his statement, Chulvi said that including this “erroneous and incomplete” quote in the decree declaring Valencian music societies as a Representative Manifestation of Intangible Cultural Heritage “has generated unnecessary conflict at the political and social level, blurring the fact truly important: that today the Valencian musical societies have the recognition they deserve and that the State and Community Governments recognize the important work they do and their social, cultural and economic contribution in Spain and in the Comunidad Valenciana”.

The municipal official emphasizes the great progress that this declaration supposes at the level of conservation, protection and diffusion of a cultural asset such as the musical societies.

The Xàbia statement continues that they want to join this public recognition of the work done by music societies and asks, “to rectify that sentence of Royal Decree Law 229/2021 of March 30 as requested by the Federation of Societies Musicales of the Comunidad Valenciana”.
