A delegation from the Policía Local de Xàbia has recently participated in the PACTESUR European Security Week which was held in the city of Liège in Belgium and aimed to raise awareness amongst citizens and local politicians on their role in crime prevention and public safety as well as serving to exchange opinions and results on experience in protecting public spaces across Europe.

The officers from Xàbia joined several tactical exercises given by the PAB Special Unit focused on the use of weapons within an urban environment in a precise and safe way to avoid damage to third parties or spectators when there is a high-risk situation with citizens around. Xàbia’s officers were congratulated by the instructors for their high resolution capacity and their safety in the handling of the weapons.

The participating police officers also took part in other practices with the Liège Canine Unit, in prevention workshops and were even able to attend a night shift briefing and accompany them on their patrols through the leisure areas.

The meeting in Belgium is part of the PACTESUR program of which the Xàbia Police is an active member along with other bodies such as the local police in Madrid, Nice, Edinburgh, London and Leeds (UK), Riga, Munich and Essen (Germany ), Turin, Lisbon and Liège. In this forum, measures to increase security in public spaces have been discussed, studied and practiced.

This program is financed by the Internal Security Fund of the European Union and will have its next appointment in Xàbia at the end of June.
