With Easter, one of its most traditional events returns to Xàbia. After an absence of three years, the Fira d’Artesania de Xàbia – the oldest craft markets in the region – returns as the main entertainment on offer in the historic centre of town over the Easter holiday weekend.

The fair will open on Good Friday on Placeta del Convent -where all the gastronomic offer will be concentrated – with some 65 stalls offering all sorts of hand-crafted products stretching up Carrer Mayor and into Plaza de Baix. The stalls will remain in place until Easter Monday. And, as always, the fair will have the added attractions of folk music, children’s shows and children’s workshops.

It was in 2018 that the Fira d’Artesania de Xàbia was last able to bring an extra spring step to the historic centre; in 2019 poor weather forced its cancellation whilst the pandemic halted any hopes of a return in 2020 and 2021. Consequently, both the Xàbia Històrica business association and the councillor for Economic Development, Marta Bañuls, have expressed their joy at being able to bring back this iconic market for 2022, the first large-scale event to be organised by the association since the start of the pandemic, and they hope that it will provide a boost to the shops and hospitality businesses in the heart of Xàbia, whilst also filling the streets with the colour, music and joy that has been missing for such a long time.

In addition, on the morning of Easter Sunday, the traditional gathering of penyas and associations around the iconic church of San Bartolomé will also return, led by the three quintades that continue to plan for the very special edition of the Fogueres de Sant Joan in June, who will be joined by the Filà Captain of the Moros i Cristianos and other associations such as the Centre Artistic Musical (CAM), Amics de Thiviers, RAMA and TAPIS.

The Soler Blasco Museum will also be open on Good Friday, Saturday 16th and Easter Sunday from 10.00am to 1.00pm whilst the Mercat Muncipal – the indoor market – will be open throughout the weekend between 8.00am to 2.00pm Good Friday to Easter Monday inclusive, with the bars remaining open until 10.00pm each day.
