XÀBIA INITIATIVE AIMS TO IMPROVE HEALTH AND PREVENT DISEASE

The programme is aimed at people who need to improve their health and well-being.

The Department of Sports in Xàbia has joined with the Health Centre to develop a project which aims to promote exercise and physical activity as essential elements to improve health and prevent disease amongst those most at risk from suffering from a number of health-related issues.

The coordinator of the Health Centre, María José Mulet, and the nursing coordinator, Begoña Moral, met with the councillor responsible for Sports, Toni Molina, and the coordinator of the department, Francisco Bisquert, to announce details of the initiative which has been titled “EN MOVIMENT”.

The councillor explained that thirty people have already joined the project and two groups have been formed which will begin classes shortly. He added that all of them have been referred by the health centre in Xàbia based on their pathologies to improve their health by exercising.

The programme is aimed at those patients who are at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, cancer or diabetes, among others whilst also helping to control obesity and body fat percentage, increase bone density and strengthen the muscular system with the ultimate aim of increasing physical fitness and improving the ability to exert effort without fatigue.

In addition, regular physical exercise improves mood and reduces the risk of suffering from stress, anxiety and depression, thus increasing self-esteem and emotional well-being. It also encourages sociability and contributes to increasing personal autonomy and social integration, with all the benefits that derive from it.

The programme is aimed at people of legal age, citizens residing and/or registered in the municipalities who have been referred by the health centre and are considered to be part of the “at risk” population as well as inactive people.
