Xàbia allocates additional 10 million euros for investment and social aid

The funding will also finance the drafting of projects such as the one necessary to convert the Central Cinema into a multipurpose cultural space.

Councillor Ximo Segarra (Treasury) has reported on a modification of credits that will be submitted to a vote at the next plenary session, a proposal that will incorporate 10 million euros into the municipal budgets that will be allocated to be invested in the preparation of new projects as well as the strengthen social services funding to guarantee the municipal response to the humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

With regards to the latter, the councillor explained that, give the current situation, one million euros will be injected into the initial budget for emergency aid in 2022 as well as other social expenses that arise.

He also detailed other investments that include an allocation of funding from the budget reserve to improve the municipal sanitation network, with some 1.1 million euros set aside for a new phase of the Montgó sewage system, including an analysis of the network, whilst additional funding will be provided to improve public lighting and energy efficiency (3.6 million euros) and the purchase of 13 electric cars for use by different municipal departments (580,000 euros).

In terms of municipal projects, the council will allocate some 2.2 million euros, much of which to cover the municipal contribution for the indoor swimming pool currently under construction next the sport centre in the port, whilst the rest will fund a new classroom for two-year olds at CEIP Trenc d’Alba (48,100 euros), improvement work at the Riurau d’Arnauda to provide better conditions for it to be used as a cultural space (255,000 euros), and 115,000 euros for sports facilities such as the new calisthenics or workout park in Jávea Park, an open-air gymnastics circuit in Parque Montaner, and a climbing wall on the side of the sport centre in the port.

Just over 238,600 euros has been allocated to tender the drafting of future proposed projects, such as the fitting out of a classroom for two-year-olds at CEIP L’Arenal, finding a solution for the flooding issue in the Costa Nova area, preparing a new road re-surfacing plan, and converting the Central Cinema into a multipurpose cultural space, whilst also studying the installation of cameras in certain spaces to improve citizen security

238,600 euros have also been included to tender the drafting of different projects: from fitting out a classroom for 2-year-olds at the Arenal school, solving the storm drainage in the Costa Nova area, preparing a new asphalt plan or converting the Central Cinema into a multipurpose cultural space to study the installation of cameras in certain spaces to improve citizen security.

The Soler Blasco Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum will receive 31,000 euros to find a new archaeological excavation campaign on the Illa del Portitxol and subsidize the exhumation of a mass grave in which residents of Xàbia are buried.

Finally, funding for certain departments such as Culture, Sports, Fiestas and Education will be strengthened.

Councillor Segarra explained that this is the second economic injection of the year to the municipal budget, using funds from the accumulated surplus from last year’s accounts, savings that the municipal can now drawn on as a result of the relaxation of fiscal rules.

Mayor José Chulvi added that the economic management of the local council has allowed the development of responsible policies that now provide room to continue responding to the issues and extraordinary needs that the global economic situation requires.
