Turisme Comunitat Valenciana has received a total of 13,867 reservations this year made through the Bono Viaje scheme, corresponding to the second period of the Viatgem CV program and which can be added to more than 9,000 reservations made during the last quarter of 2020.

Of these, a total of 716 reservations have been for Semana Santa and Easter holidays in the Comunidad Valenciana, between April 1st and 5th. The vast majority are for the Alicante Province, with 438 reservations for this long weekend, followed by the Province of Castellón with 167, and then the Province of Valencia with 111 reservations.

The regional secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, said that “the reservations issued through the Bono Viaje for Easter account for a little more than 5% of the total reservations registered for the first half of the year“, a result that in his opinion “is positive because we meet the objective of the voucher, the revitalization of the tourism sector outside the tourist season“.

It is also supported by the fact that half of the reservations made with the voucher are to enjoy stays outside the weekend“, added Colomer, referring to the fact that only 50.6% of the reservations are for trips of Friday to Sunday.

On the other hand, the head of Turisme emphasized “the high bundling of reservations, which means that users are not limited to enjoying the accommodation, but include all kinds of services that benefit other sectors directly and indirectly“.

Colomer also pointed out that “the travel voucher represents a way to help employment, trying to ensure that companies do not close, and that it is not only an overnight stay, but also involves other services“.

Thus, he announced that Turisme VC, together with the Valencian Business Association of Travel Agencies, has organised an online ‘workshop’ on April 7th between service providers of CreaTurisme and travel agencies, who have the ability to create packages tourism to market, all within the framework of the Bono Viaje scheme.

Travel Voucher User Profile in 2021

The regional secretary for Tourism explained that “during this second period of the Viatgem Comunitat Valenciana scheme, more than 20,270 vouchers have already been distributed, and we have a waiting list of more than 48,000 people. In total, 77,370 users have registered for this period of the Bono Viaje”.

The most popular destinations of the Bono Viaje for the first half of 2021 are in the Province of Alicante: Benidorm, Finestrat, Altea, Calp, Benimantell, Jávea and Alicante. They are followed by those from the Province of Castelló: with Peñíscola and Morella the most popoular, and finally those from the Province of Valencia, with the city Valencia at the top.

According to the data managed by Turisme to date, the nearly 14,000 reservations will benefit more than 41,000 people residing in the Comunidad Valenciana. This figure corresponds to the general average of three people per travel reservation and it must be remembered that the minimum travel group required by the voucher is two people.

However, these figures will increase as more vouchers are distributed and more bookings are made. Some 12 million euros has been put aside for two periods of 2021: from January 1st to June 15th and from September 15th to December 31st.

In addition, the average stay of the reservations will exceed three nights in all types of accommodation, being much higher in campsites, which will reach an average of twelve nights, or in rental homes, which will exceed six. For hotels, the average stay will be five nights.

The most popular type of accommodation is a hotel with about 78% of the total reservations, followed by rural accommodation, which accounts for more than 10% of the total number of reservations.

The scheme currently has 1,436 member companies, mostly travel agencies, with 581 members of the programme. About 40% of the Bono Viaje reservations are made through the AAVV.

Deadlines and Waiting List

The Bono Viaje is a 70% discount voucher scheme to travel through the three provinces, with the aim of stimulating the demand for internal tourist services in periods of seasonality due to the negative socio-economic effects caused by COVID-19.

This second period of the Viatgem CV program was launched on January 1st and will run until June 15 through the bonoviajecv.gva.es platform.

It should be remembered that each voucher issued by Turisme Comunitat Valenciana supposes a credit reserve of 600 euros. In the event that the reservation is not completed within 7 days or the maximum amount is not exhausted when applying the 70% discount, more codes are released and more bonuses are awarded in order of the waiting list. At the moment, the waiting list stands at 20,271.
