THE FESTIVITIES HONOURING JESÚS NAZARENO WILL BE FROM APRIL 24 TO MAY 3

The programme includes two charity events and a parade of traditional clothing organised by the Fogueres 75 Commission.

The Brotherhood of Jesús Nazareno and the Department of Fiestas in Xàbia have presented the programme for the 2024 edition of the festivities honouring the town’s perpetual mayor Jesús Nazareno which will take place from Wednesday 24th April to Friday 3rd May.

Representatives from the Brotherhood, Vicente Tur and Antonio Roselló, and the councillor responsible for Fiestas, Mavi Pérez (CPJ), revealed the details of the nine day programme which the councillor explained “it is a programme for everyone” which has “the collaboration of the rest of the festival committees since the fiesta in Xàbia is for all“.

The 2024 programme opens with the blood donation day on Wednesday 24th April and includes two charity events to raise money for cancer associations. The first will be on the evening of Sunday 28th April, the Valencian farces ‘A mí no m’agrada criticar‘ and ‘Mortes de fam‘ performed by the Valentes i Positives theatre group from Pedreguer which will be raising money for the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC) whilst the second will be on the evening of Tuesday 30th April, a charity concert by the young musicians of the Centre Artístic Musical and Petit Arts de Ars Nova which will be raising money for Aspanion Niños con Cáncer.

Over the weekend of Friday 26th April and Monday 29th April, there will be the bull-running in the Placeta del Convent.

Children’s Day will be on Wednesday 1st May with a fun despertà in the morning, a giant paella in the Parque Montaner and the traditional tour of the flower crosses in the evening in the company of the minstrels of La Tuna de Xàbia.

On Thursday 2nd May, there will be the flower offering to Jesús Nazareno in the church of San Bartolomé after which there will be a parade of traditional festive clothing organised by the Fogueres 75 Commission in collaboration with Isabel Martí.

Friday 3rd May is the special day of Jesús Nazareno – a local bank holiday – which will begin with the ringing of the church bells, a despertà with the band of the Centre Artístic Musical, a solemn midday mass and presentation of the diplomas to the 2024 mayorals, and then, in the evening, the solemn procession of the treasured image of Jesús Nazareno from the heart of the historic centre to the blue-domed chapel of Calvario, after which there will be a spectacular firework display to bring the festivities to an end.
