Restaurante Portitxol has become a favourite place to enjoy haute cuisine using local produce and cooked with traditional methods to bring together tradition and innovation. Chef Ana creates dishes of great quality with the need of lavish garnishes, building on the knowledge given to her by her grandmother, whilst her brother Salva learnt how to choose the best products from their grandfather. Attached to the restaurant is the Taberna Santa Croqueta serving drinks and tapas and offering access to the well-decorated and comfortable roof terrace.
COVID-19: Both the restaurant and the tavern have air-cleansing systems which clean the rooms every three minutes so that you can enjoy your food and drink in a safe environment and without worry.
Salva and Ana are brother and sister and they are descended from the first child born on the island of Portitxol some two centuries ago. Chef Ana learnt her trade from her grandmother Josefa -Pepica- who founded the popular Restaurante Mezquida with Cristobal L-Illa in 1982 and which attracts clients from all over Spain still to this day. She learnt about herbs and how to use them in the kitchen, how to make salted foods and preserve foods naturally, how to make the most of ingredients provided by the land around them and how to make sausages in the traditional way. Salva accompanied their grandfather to the fish market to source fish fresh from the bay and gained valuable knowledge about how to choose the best product for the kitchen.
The menu offers various individual dishes and sharing platters as well as rice dishes at midday and fish available in a variety of forms; smoked, dried, stewed and grilled as well the great selection of wines with special emphasis on the vineyards of the Mediterranean coast. There is a menu del día which offers bread with tomato and allioli, a selection of croquetas, starter, main course and dessert or coffee.
Connected to the restaurant is the Taberna Santa Coqueta serving drinks and tapas all day with access to the fantastic roof terrace. All drinks are served with an appetiser but they also have a full menu of tapas with their speciality croquetas taking centre stage (and rightly so) with 10 varieties.
