New sports council will give new voice to local clubs and professionals

On Tuesday 8th November, the first session of the Consejo Municipal del Deporte, a participatory and consultative body for sports club and professionals, will be taking place, an initiative that will encourage the contribution of sports club and athletes in the planning policies and promotion of physical activity and sports at the local level in Xàbia.

The councillor responsible for Sports, Alberto Tur, explained that the session, which will take place this Tuesday at the plenary room in the town hall, will see the members of the sports council take their place, a line-up which includes tennis player David Ferrer, sailors Rafael Andarias and Julian Miñana, athlete Irene Bolufar and handball player Maria Cardona. In addition, five representatives has been selected from the sports clubs in the town, the presidents of Club de Atletisme Llebeig Xàbia, Centre Excursionista Xàbia (CEX), Club Bàsquet Joventut Xàbia, Club Tenis Jávea and Club Handbol Xàbia.

The sports council will also benefit from representation from the different political parties in the municipality, the Consell Escolar, private companies of the sector in Xàbia, and the municipal sports coordinator. Whilst the sessions will be open to any interested person, aonly members have the right to vote.

The councillor added that, once the administrative and creation phase has been concluded, the Consell de l’Esport will be taking centre stage and become a key body to set the policies for the promotion of sport in Xàbia and a very useful tool for the council in an area such as sports, for which the municipality has a very rich and diverse reputation and encourages hundreds of residents of all ages to participate.
