MATCH REPORT | CFI ALICANTE 1-4 CD JÁVEA

A hat-trick from José Cabo and a goal from Gabriel secured a valuable victory to lift the rojiblancos out of the relegation zone.

At the beginning of April, CD Jávea were rock bottom of the league table, three points from safety and looking almost certain to suffer immediate relegation from the inaugural Lliga Comunitat. A month later, three solid victories in five games, including a comprehensive defeat of champions CF Benidorm, have lifted the club out of the bottom three for the first time this season and this fine 4-1 away win at CFI Alicante has cemented the opinion that this side is not a bad team but has been suffering a frustrating season of truly bad luck.

The rojiblancos headed south to the provincial capital full of confidence after the stunning victory over CF Benidorm that showed just what this team can actually achieve if they play to their strengths. This was their valuable game in hand, the encounter that should have been played back at the end of February but was postponed out of respect for those who lost their lives in the tragic apartment block fire in Valencia.

CFI Alicante still harbour ambitions of snatching a promotion play-off spot and a win would have lifted them to within four points of third place. But a buoyant Jávea had other ideas. José Cabo opened the scoring on 8 minutes; Gabriel doubled the advantage 12 minutes later. Adrián Campillo pulled one back for the host on 22 minutes and at the break both sides still had plenty of work to do.

Head coach Julio Ivorra shuffled his cards a little, bringing on the experienced Javi Hernández from Fran Muñoz and striker Jorge Gonzalez “Pitu” for Gabriel for the second half; both had scored in the amazing match against Benidorm three days earlier. On 67 minutes, Cabo scored a third and then, three minutes later, completed his hat-trick, his first for the club, to put Jávea into a commanding lead 4-1 with just 20 minutes to go. The rojiblancos held on to record only their second away victory of the season and their biggest win of the season.

Nine goals in four matches, CD Jávea have brushed aside their title of lowest scorers in the league; that accolade now belongs to CF La Nucia “B”, the rojiblancos next opponents this coming weekend. Another with two sides in the bottom three playing each other, another victory will turn that slim hope of salvation into a real objective.
