MATCH REPORT | CF BENIDORM 7-0 CD JÁVEA

The rojiblancos fall to their heaviest defeat for 42 years as league leaders run riot in Villajoyosa.

The rojiblancos crashed to their heaviest defeat for over 42 years at the hands of a side that has opened up a four-point lead at the top of the table. A hat-trick from the league’s top scorer Matias Aquino plus a brace each from José Cralos Gómez and Patricio Margara condemned CD Jávea to a less than festive Sunday morning in December and the rojiblancos now sit joint bottom of the table with CD Thader with just eight points from 12 games.

Head coach Julio Ivorra has had a difficult job in recent weeks. Injuries and suspensions have meant that he has to call more and more on the youth side to supply the players to allow him to field a full squad, often being forced to throw them straight into the starting eleven. It’s valuable experience for the teenagers but the strength of the Lliga Comunitat has been unforgiving and CD Jávea have conceded 32 times in just 12 games.

Preparation for this game was no different. Club captain Aldo, powerful midfielder Elian and determined winger Tomás were all unavailable due to suspension whilst Mario Feliu, Lautaro Bereyro, Rodrigo Zalazar and David Buigues remained on the injured list. Although the experienced Javi Hernandez and Fran Muñoz returned, their lack of match-time meant that they started the game on the bench.

First Half

At half-time, CD Jávea were still (sort of) in the game. Goals from Aquino and Goméz had given the hosts a 2-0 lead. The first arrived after just six minutes, Aquino to smashing home into an empty net after the defender and goalkeeper were left sprawling on the floor. The lead was doubled on 29 minutes when Gómez volleyed home a delightful lifted pass into the box from Cabezas.

Second Half

On 52 minutes, it was three, Aquinos scoring from 35 yards, his powerful curling shot leaving goalkeeper Tonet reaching for thin air at full stretch as the ball floated past him and into top right corner. Three minutes later, Benidorm scored their fourth after Jávea failed to clear a corner at the near post and Gómez smashed the ball into an empty net from a yard out. The fifth arrived on 64 minutes in comical fashion, the Jávea defence unfortunately providing the comedy. A back pass under pressure from Marcos to Tonet was woefully cleared straight to Benidorm’s Margara, who charged into the box, stayed on his feet after an apparent trip from Marcos, and whilst the rojiblancos called for an offside against Aquino, the player tried to push it past the advancing Tonet, who saved with his right foot but the Benidorm player was quickest to the rebound and stroked the ball home with the outside of the left boot. More comedy for the sixth on the 81st minute, Aquino charging into the box from the right and Tonet advancing well enough to block his low shot but the rebound bobbled in front of goal, leaving Guille flat-footed and on his behind and Margara poked home at the far post, flattening his colleague Cabezas at the same time. Six minutes from time, it was 7-0, a defence-splitting pass allowing Aquino to score his third of the game and his 10th of the season.

It was the beginning of May 1981 when CD Jávea last conceded seven goals in an away game against Muro CF in a season. It was a shock defeat as the rojiblancos finished 7th in the Primera Regional Grupo Sur. It’s a sad reality that it’s unlikely that this side will finish this season in such a high position and the club’s first relegation for three decades is already beckoning, just 12 games into a 34 game season. But stranger things have happened … and just recently too.

This Wednesday 6th December, CD Jávea makes the relative long journey north to Castellón de la Plana to take on CF Rafalafena de Castellón in the Fourth Round of La Nostra Copa, a handy distraction and a route to the Copa del Rey open to the smaller sides of the Comunidad Valenciana.
