MATCH REPORT | CD JÁVEA 1-1 L’OLLERIA CF

A spectacular goal from Pitu cancelled out a farcical opener from the visitors and forced a share of the spoils.

A spectacular individual goal scored by Pitu secured a valuable point for CD Jávea on an unseasonally warm day at the Campo d’Esports. The strike cancelled out a farcical opener for the visitors in the first-half in a game in which both sides fought hard to gain maximum points and lift themselves out of the bottom three.

L’Olleria CF arrived in Jávea sitting right at the bottom of the table, a surprise poor start to the season for a side that finished runners-up in the Preferente last campaign. For Jávea, head coach Julio Ivorra was forced to name a rather patched-up side, unable to call upon Fran, Cabo, Carlos Bisquert and Mario Feliu and with the vastly experienced goalkeeper Tonet on the bench in favour of Aaron Rebelles.

Neither side could claim a clear dominance of the game in the opening 20 minutes or so until Jávea’s Tomás hit the post and then goalkeeper Rebelles, making a rare start for the ‘rojiblancos’ confidentally blocked a one-on-one attack. At the other end, a low effort from Pitu just inside the box was well blocked by the keeper, the rebound falling to Adrían whose attempt is also blocked, this time by a defender. The deadlock was broken just before half-time in a farcical manner. A loose ball ran slowly through to keeper Rebelles who had advanced a few yards outside his area. With L’Olleria’s Tormo bearing down on him, he paused too long before trying to pass out wide, the ball hitting the advancing player and rebounding agonisingly slowly along the ground some 25 yards and into the back of the net to make it 0-1 at the break.

Head coach Julio Ivorra had one change for the second-half, bringing on Kick Otto for Adrián, and the game continued in the same manner with lots of midfield play but few attacks on either goal. On 70 minutes, the home side pulled level with a spectacular goal. Young striker Pitu collected the ball out on the right, checked and pushed into the centre before unleashing a well-placed shot from just outside the area which looped over the keeper and into the back of the net. The final 20 minutes saw opportunities for both sides but the defensive lines remained firm and they had to settle for a point, the visitor’s first on the road this season. And perhaps as some consolation, CD Jávea maintained its unbeaten home record against L’Olleria CF.

The result leaves CD Jávea in the bottom three and five points adrift of safety after Santa Pola’s 2-0 home win over CF UE Tavernes. Next weekend, it’s another lunch-time game for the ‘rojiblancos’ – the third in a row – and another relatively long journey south to Rojales to take on CD Thader, sitting bottom of the table on goal difference after a 1-4 thumping at league leaders Eldense “B”.
