A dour 0-0 draw played out on a chilly December evening concluded the programme before the Christmas break.

Two teams battled out a rather dour 0-0 draw, rather similar to the last time they met at the Camp d’Esports, although admittedly the encounter did have its moments, all of which featured the home side and all of which might have changed the direction of the game. However, the point was not enough to prevent CDJávea entering the winter break bottom of the table after CD Thader’s win at Callosa.

It was a bitterly cold December early evening, the sharp wind making it doubly so, and those fans who turned out in their numbers once again needed something to take their minds off the occasional shiver. And it didn’t take long for the hackles to be raise when, just seven minutes into the game, striker José Cabo was clearly bundled down inside the area, a certain penalty it seemed, only for the referee to wave away the appeals and spark thunderous disapproval in the main stand. And it didn’t stop there for just a few minutes later, Pitu broke clear on the far left and unleashed a powerful low shot across the face of the goal, leaving the opposition keeper grasping at thin air as he watched the ball nestle into the bottom right corner of the net, a stunning goal. But no! The referee indicate an offside that only seemed apparent to himself, leaving the fans even more vexed as the alleged offence wasn’t obvious, even for those in line with the play.

The second half brought the third bizarre decision of the officials on 62 minutes. La Nucia substitute Tutu lay sprawled on the halfway line, an apparent victim of a serious assault which did not seem obvious to anyone in what had become a rather physical game of football. On the near side, the assistant waved his flag furiously as if his life depended on it, beckoning over the referee who, after discussion, showed a direct red to Aldo. Two minutes of confusion followed as the club skipper begged the referee to reconsider his decision; great discussions between groups in the stand added to the drama and the opinion was mutual – no-one had seen the alleged the assault (which happened right in front of the main stand) so how could the assistant have been so confident in not only flagging the foul but also picking out the culprit?

It was inevitable that the final 28 minutes were dominated by the visitors but the Jávea defensive line held firm leaving keeper Tonet with little to do whilst at the other end, Jávea might have nicked a late winner if a cross/shot from Pitu had dropped just a few centimetres to the left and avoided the crossbar/left post connection. As the chill continued to build, the referee brought the game to a close, leaving the sides to share the spoils of the final game before the Christmas break.
