Friday 9th July 2021 – CARLOS LÓPEZ with Mike Smith
Xàbia football player Gema Soliveres has extended her contract with the women’s senior side at Deportivo Alavés, known as Alavés Gloriosas. The club announced that the 20-year-old midfielder would be staying with the side and will continue to be at the core of the team for next season after promotion to the Iberdrola League, the top flight of women’s football in Spain.
In its statement, Alavés said that, although Solveres is one of the youngest in the squad, “she has become the brain of the team” which has earned her right to prove herself among the country’s elite players. During the successful 2020/21 season, she scored twice and claimed three assists and the club thanked her for her confidence in the project and wished her the best of the luck in her leap into professional football.
There will now be two Xabieras in the top division of women’s football in Spain since Gema Soliveres will join Sandra Castelló, who has also recently extended her contract with Sporting Huelva.
