Council clears forest areas close to urban areas to reduce fire risk

The work has cleared around 2.5 hectares in various areas across the municipality.

For the past few weeks, work has been carried out to clear various forest areas that border residental areas across Xàbia in order to reduce the risk of forest fires, specifically in the Urbanización Sol del Este, Parque Pinosol and the El Rafalet recreation area.

The total area affected by the work covers about 2.5 hectares and consists of thinning and pruning trees as well as clearing bushes. The workers have been preparing these prunings in strategic points in case residents want to collect them.

Coordinated by the Department of Citizen Protection and Emergencies, in collaboration with the Department of Heritage, the clearing project, being carried out by private company Selvícola del Maestrazgo, is under the direction of Medi XX SL, following instructions of the Local Forest Fire Prevention Plan with the assistance from the Municipal Strategic Prevention of Fires Fund and the Generalitat Valenciana’s Forest Management unit.

Councillors Juan Ortolá and Enrique Escrivá visited one of the areas being cleared this week along with staff from both companies to be able to verify the work being carried out by their workers and inspect the changes that have occurred in the areas that have already been cleared.
