With just over a month to go until the start of the 2022/23 season, CD Jávea’s continued existence is in danger after the entire management board resigned over the lack of financial support. It is a very worrying situation for one of the region’s oldest football clubs which recently celebrated its 80th anniversary.

A statement on the football club’s website was issued on Tuesday evening:

After a season in which the economic situation has not been the best for the club, after waiting for solutions and finding nothing but obstacles along the way, the team that was managing the club has been forced to resign.

In order to put all the members and people related to the club in the picture, and so that the reason for the decision made is understood, we want to present the facts that have led us to this point.

At the beginning of the 2021/2022 season, after the resignation of the previous board of directors chaired by David Tíscar due to problems that had been dragging on since the 2019/2020 season, a group of parents and people closely linked to the club took the initiative to set up a Management Board that would be in charge of resolving the existing delicate situation and carrying out the functioning of the football club.

The resignation of the previous board of directors was caused by an audit that prevented the football club from receiving the relevant financial aid, and after already having made plans for the 2021/2022 season, they made the decision to resign in June 2021. It was at that moment that we stepped forward to assume the work that was pending, even without having total control of the football club, since the situation blocked the transfer of powers from the board chaired by Tíscar to the new Management Board.

After months of work and after finishing the season and about to start the 2022/2023 campaign, we are still at the same point as when we took the reins: the football club still hasn’t received the corresponding financial aid. All the work carried out in recent months has been possible thanks to the academy fees, the amount of which is not enough to face the season and the effort made by the different members of the Management Board.

For this new season that begins next week, the football club’s budget had been adjusted considerably to meet pending payments, prepare a management organization chart to pay special attention to the academy and the hiring of technicians who take charge of the fifteen teams that make up the academy. But, in view of the fact that the season is going to be faced in the same position as the last one financially speaking, that is, without the contributions of the local council, we are forced to make this decision, since moving forward is impossible and unsustainable due to the situation we have been experiencing since the beginning.

Making this decision has been very hard and has been meditated for a long time, since we are aware that we are leaving the football club and the academy adrift, but it is currently unfeasible to manage it without the corresponding financial aid.

We want to thank all the people who have entrusted the project that was already underway and at the same time we apologize for making this drastic decision.

To the academy students who have already paid the fee for this season, we would like to inform you that the amount paid will be fully refunded. The Management Board will contact the parents to agree on the way to return the amount.

We hope that someone finds a quick solution so that the football club, with 80 years of experience, for which we have worked and fought so hard, does not disappear.

For many years, you’ve told us how much you love what we’re doing and some of you have even asked for ways to say thanks. For us, there really is nothing easier to show someone how much you appreciate their efforts than buying them a beer (or a wine; or even a coffee) – it’s so simple.
