Xàbia’s beaches wrap up summer season with a positive safety report
For the third year in a row, Xàbia’s lifeguard teams, coordinated by the Red Cross, finished the 2025 summer season with no fatalities and a strong record of safety, medical assistance, and accessibility for all beachgoers.
The lifeguard service on Xàbia’s beaches, coordinated by the Cruz Roja, has closed the 2025 summer season with a very positive safety report. For the third year running, no drownings or fatal accidents were recorded in the areas under coverage, a testament both to the efficiency of the rescue teams and the responsibility of beachgoers.
During the summer months, the lifeguards handled 1,331 medical assists, slightly fewer than the previous season. Highlights included 158 treatments for jellyfish stings, well below the usual average of around 1,000, and 556 interventions for cuts and minor injuries.
The team also conducted 84 ambulance transfers, successfully located five missing persons, and provided 144 adapted swimming sessions to allow people with reduced mobility or disabilities to enjoy the sea. In terms of rescues, there were 101 interventions in the water, mostly involving paddleboarders (41), kayakers (20), and small boats (25), along with 15 swimmer rescues.
The Cruz Roja noted that while the total number of interventions decreased across all categories, there were some serious incidents: two severe maritime accidents, including a propeller amputation and a major trauma from a boat collision, one cardiorespiratory arrest on Arenal beach, and four fainting episodes (two trauma-related and two from medical issues).
On the bright side, the season saw very few jellyfish, keeping sting-related incidents to a minimum.
Xàbia Council thanked the Cruz Roja staff and the public for their cooperation, emphasizing that teamwork between lifeguards and beachgoers is key to keeping the municipality’s beaches safe, accessible, and welcoming for everyone.
