In an official statement, the town hall in Xàbia has provided an update on recovery efforts following the devastating fire at an apartment block in Jávea Park, which tragically claimed two lives earlier last Thursday afternoon.

According to the council, from the very beginning officers from the Policía Local de Xàbia, Protección Civil de Xàbia, and the Alicante Provincial Fire Brigade have maintained all necessary safety measures at the building, while supervising the operations being carried out inside.

The statement also notes that cleaning services have now accessed the property to remove debris, restore common areas, and facilitate residents’ return to their homes as swiftly and safely as possible.

Mayor Rosa Cardona has personally overseen the restoration of essential services in the building, particularly the reestablishment of drinking water and electricity supplies. She has also held several meetings with the municipal Social Services team and the Cruz Roja to ensure that the basic needs of those affected by the fire are fully met.

If work continues to progress as planned and technical assessments are favourable, the council expects that residents will be able to begin gradually returning to their homes shortly, with the exception of the second floor, where the fire originated.

Coordinated by local police chief José Antonio Monfort, the town hall has established a team of professionals who are holding regular meetings at 10.00am, 2.00pm, and 7.00pm to assess developments and share decisions with affected residents.

The statement concluded that the town hall will continue to provide timely updates on any new developments and expresses its gratitude to residents for their cooperation and understanding.
