Xàbia secures new emergency evacuation route in La Plana
The new route, which crosses private property, will be opened by the authorities during an emergency.
Xàbia Council has signed a collaboration agreement with the Arbona family to open the track linking Carrer Penáguila with Carretera de San Antonio in case of an emergency. This route, considered strategic, will serve as an additional evacuation corridor for La Plana.
Although the Municipal Fire Plan has long identified this road as a priority evacuation route, it remained closed until now because it crossed private property. Under the new agreement, it will be opened during risk situations, strengthening safety for both residents and visitors.
The deal is the result of a joint effort involving the La Plana Residents’ Association, which actively participated in the process. It also includes the installation of pedestrian crossings on the sides and two access gates. In the event of an emergency, these gates can be opened and closed by the Local Police, Civil Protection, and other authorized services, ensuring a rapid response.
This step marks a significant improvement in emergency preparedness, especially regarding forest fire risks, and highlights the importance of public–private cooperation and community involvement in protecting the area.
