XÀBIA PREPARES FULL PROGRAMME TO MARK INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Students from IES Antoni Llidó and IES La Mar have prepared protest songs for the special day.

Xàbia Council has prepared an extensive programme to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD), a global holiday celebrated on March 8th to focus on issues such as gender quality and women’s rights. The Xàbia schedule, prepared by the Departments of Equality, of Culture, and of Sports, mixes the demand for women’s rights through cultural and sporting events.

The preparations have already begun with the music workshops led by students from IES Antoni Llidó and IES La Mar in collaboration with the Smoking Souls singer Carles Caselles to create four songs that will be officially presented at the IWD·8M institutional event which will be taking place in the church square in the heart of the historic centre.

Meanwhile, the Soler Blasco Municipal Museum has been hosting the exhibition “POBLADORES D’ART”, a multidisciplinary group display by artists Alba Vega, Alicia Nuñez, Animal de Bancal, Aran Viana, Cristina Minguillón, Dolo Vicens, Elia Massanet, Laura Serradilla , Lidia Santacreu, Mar Fornés, Marina Mulet, Matilde’s Father, MireiaCreativa, Paqui Fornet, Pau López, Rosario Caselles and Teresa Fons. The exhibition will remain open to the public until Sunday 24th March.

On Thursday 7th March at 7.00pm, the public library in Carrer Major in the historic centre will be hosting the presentation of the book “DESCONCERTOS” by Adriana Serlik, whilst at 12 noon on Friday 8th March – International Women’s Day – there will be the reading of a manifesto and the presentation of the songs created by the high school students outside the town hall.

On Saturday 9th March at 8.00pm, the Casa de Culture will be hosting the theatrical work “ESQUIEX, UN ESTIU AL TEU VENTRE” which addresses maternal ties and will be performed by the Va Com Va theatre company.

On Thursday 14th March at 8.00pm, the music conservatory will be hosting the fourth edition of “LES DONES EN LA MÚSICA”, a concert featuring musicians from the Professional Music Conservatory of Xàbia and including pieces by Alice Gomez, Clara Schumann and Giselle Galos, among others.

On Sunday 10th March, the third edition of the “REGATA DE REM DE LA DONA” will be hosted by Club Náutico Jávea whilst there will be self-defense workshops offered by Club de Karate Washinkai and Muay Thai Toro Prats on Saturday 16th March between 10.00am and 12.30pm. In addition, on Saturday 30th March, the Club de Tennis Taula de Xàbia has organised a special women’s open championship. Finally, on Sunday 7th April, the IWD programme concludes with the annual “CURSA DE LA DONA” non-competitive women’s race.

The councillor responsible for Sports, Toni Molina (PP), explained that the council has organised these sporting events with the assistance of sporting clubs in Xàbia, adding that there are five women who make up the “DONA I ESPORT” campaign, five athletes who were chosen for recognition of the Consell de l’Esport – Estrella Gámez (CD Artistica Montgó), Ana Bisquert (Club Esportiu Llebeig), Marisol Ponce and Dora Roselló (Club Muay Thai Toro Prats) and the women’s rowing team of Club Náutico Jávea.

The councillor responsible for Culture, Mavi Pérez (CPJ), added that the cultural programming is “a social speaker in which everyone who wishes can express their demands”, whilst the councillor responsible for Equality, Fátima Jarjor (PP), acknowledged the work carried out by her department to coordinate this extensive programming and has made herself available to the Xàbia associations to work together to improve it and ultimately for the projects they want to implement.
