Xàbia Mayor Rosa Cardona held a working meeting with José Antonio Redorat, Director General of Local Administration of the Generalitat Valenciana to discuss three priorities for the municipality’s present and near future: the comprehensive renovation of Parque Montaner, new security and emergency coordination measures, and the modernization of local administration.

A landmark investment to revitalize Parque Montaner

One of the central topics was the remodeling and adaptation of Parque Montaner, a project involving an investment of over €1.5 million. Of this, €1 million will be provided by the Generalitat Valenciana, with the remainder covered by Xàbia.

This multi-year investment, scheduled mainly for 2025 and 2026, aims to transform the park into a modern, accessible, and vibrant community space. Plans include new children’s play areas, adapted spaces for seniors, social and rest zones, improved lighting and landscaping, and upgraded outdoor sports facilities.

Once completed, Parque Montaner will serve as a renewed “urban lung” for Xàbia, promoting social interaction, healthy living, and leisure in a safer, more sustainable, and welcoming environment for both residents and visitors.

Reinforcing security and coordination during peak season

The second focus of the meeting was on Xàbia’s security and emergency needs, particularly during the summer months when the town’s population grows significantly due to tourism.

Different forms of inter-administrative cooperation were considered. These included the reintroduction of temporary reinforcements to increase the Policía Local presence during summer, as well as agreements with larger municipalities to allow the temporary secondment of their officers during high-demand periods or major events.

If implemented, these measures would enhance public safety, improve the allocation of resources, and ensure a faster, more effective response to emergencies.

Modernizing local administration

The third point of discussion was the modernization of Xàbia’s local administration, focusing on the urgent need to fill two currently vacant posts: Secretariat and Intervention, both of which must be held by nationally qualified civil servants.

These positions are vital to the council’s financial, legal, and organizational management, and filling them would improve coordination, speed up procedures, and provide citizens with a more efficient and higher-quality public service.

The mayor underlined the urgency of filling these vacancies and welcomed the regional government’s willingness to take action to strengthen management capacity and modernize municipal administration, an essential step for a growing town like Xàbia.
