Xàbia Local Police adds new semi-rigid vessel for maritime patrols and rescues
The 300hp vessel has been named ‘L’Scobeta’ in tribute to Xàbia’s maritime heritage, the name of an old coastal watchtower in Granadella.
The Policía Local de Xàbia has unveiled its new semi-rigid vessel, a key addition that will strengthen the force’s coastal surveillance and maritime rescue capabilities.
The 7.4-metre boat, powered by a 300 hp engine, has been provided by the courts and the Sub-Directorate General for Conservation, Administration and Disposal of Assets. Its arrival will allow the local police to improve coastal patrols, respond more quickly to maritime incidents, and provide assistance in emergencies, enhancing safety for both residents and visitors.
The vessel has been named L’Scobeta in tribute to Xàbia’s maritime heritage. The name refers to an old coastal watchtower in the Granadella area, once a strategic lookout point for protecting the shoreline. This symbolic link connects the town’s seafaring tradition with the local police’s modern commitment to safeguarding the sea and its people.

At the presentation ceremony, mayor Rosa Cardona and the councillor responsible for Emergencies, Juan Ortolà (CpJ), expressed their satisfaction with the acquisition, highlighting its value for police operations. They also thanked the Guardia Civil’s Special Group for Underwater Activities (GEAS) for their crucial support. “The invaluable help of the Civil Guard has been essential in securing such an important tool for our work at sea,” they said.
The addition of L’Scobeta represents a major step forward in the local police’s maritime resources, significantly boosting response capacity and ensuring better protection of the coastline and all who enjoy it.
