Xàbia launches trial for quick loading and unloading zones in historic centre
The trial will affect the rings roads around the historic centre in areas that have been established for loading and unloading.
Xàbia Council has launched a pilot program to regulate the loading and unloading areas of the historic centre with the aim of boosting commercial activity and facilitating faster access for customers, suppliers, and residents.
The trial has been implemented by changing signs and schedules on the ring roads in the historic centre, where specific hours have been established for loading and unloading (from 8.00am to 11.00am) and exclusive hours for commercial and public use (shopping, running errands, unloading groceries, etc.) for residents and customers (from 11.00am to 2.00pm and from 4.00pm to 8.00pm), allowing parking for a maximum of 30 minutes.
This measure seeks to encourage vehicle turnover and facilitate quick shopping and daily errands for residents, allowing more people to drive to pick up groceries, run short errands, or load supplies, without clogging up parking areas. The limited parking time is intended to ensure that there are always spaces available for different users throughout the day, remembering that this regulation only affects areas specifically designated for loading and unloading.
The council has emphasized that this is a temporary and experimental initiative, whose operation will be evaluated in the coming weeks in collaboration with local merchants and residents. Depending on the results, it could be extended or adapted to other areas of the municipality.
“This action is aimed at making the historic centre more accessible and functional for local economic activity and neighborhood needs, helping to improve the competitiveness of small local businesses and the quality of life for residents,” explained Juanlu Cardona, the councillor responsible for Activities.
The council has called on the public to respect the new regulations and contribute to their success, reminding them that the use of these zones during business hours is limited to short stops of a maximum of 30 minutes, and only in designated loading and unloading areas.
