Xàbia Council has unveiled the second edition of the School Handball League, an initiative created last year to promote sports participation and introduce this discipline to students across the town’s schools. The event was attended by the councillor responsible for Sports, Toni Molina (PP), along with members of Club Handbol Xàbia, including Pedro García and José Ros.

During the presentation, club representatives explained that the School League is a project launched last year by Iván Almazán, enabling schools to form teams and compete in a fun, educational environment. Five schools took part in the first edition, and this year the organisers expect to exceed that number thanks to the growing interest in handball among the town’s students. There are already more than 40 boys and girls signed up, and participation is expected to reach 50 or 60 before the competition begins on 26 November.

One of this year’s big new features is the inclusion of fourth-year primary pupils, allowing younger children to get started in the sport and join the league dynamic. “Many children who watched their siblings play last year were eager to take part, so we opened up this new category,” the club explained.

Club Handbol Xàbia also highlighted that the league is helping spark sporting vocations, as many students who discover handball through the competition later join the club to continue playing throughout the year.

The club emphasised that the initiative aims not only to promote sport, but also to offer a space where young people can meet peers from other schools, develop teamwork skills, and enjoy physical activity in an educational and friendly setting.

Councillor Toni Molina congratulated the club for its work in bringing handball into the classroom and stressed “the importance of this kind of project, which strengthens grassroots sporting values, togetherness, and healthy living among young people.”
