Xàbia launches hospitality training course for young people
The new initiative aims to boost youth employment and meet the growing demand for skilled staff in the local restaurant sector.
Xàbia Council, through its Department of Youth and in collaboration with CREAMA, the Play Jove programme, and the Asociación de Restauradores de Xàbia (ARX), has announced a new basic hospitality training course for local residents aged 16 to 30.
The course will run from November 10th to December 5th and is designed to provide practical, fast-track training that helps young people enter the job market while addressing a real need for qualified staff in the town’s hospitality industry.
During the presentation, the councillor responsible for Youth, Raquel Violero (PP), explained that the initiative “comes from the shared goal of the Department of Youth and CREAMA to promote youth employment in Xàbia. We wanted to offer young people practical, accessible training tailored to the sector’s needs, so they can quickly join the local workforce.”
The course, which is introductory and hands-on, will be held in the evenings from 7.00pm to 10.00pm. It will combine theoretical sessions at Play Jove with practical training at the Malabrassa restaurant, which has kindly provided its facilities for the workshops.
Training will be led by Luisa Fernanda Murillo, a seasoned professional in the local hospitality industry who successfully coordinated a similar programme in 2022. Participants will learn about table service, customer care, beverage preparation, table setup and cleaning, and receive basic instruction in barista and cocktail techniques. The course also includes visits to restaurants and meetings with industry professionals.
Paco Alfaro, representing Play Jove, highlighted that the collaboration “not only trains young people, but also gives them a real opportunity to enter the workforce and grow personally and professionally.”
Councillor Violero added that the council intends to continue the project in future editions, aiming to establish it as a regular feature of the Department of Youth’s annual training calendar. “Hospitality is one of Xàbia’s key economic drivers,” she said. “Investing in training for our young people in this field means investing in our community, their future, and the quality of our destination.”
