XÀBIA FOLK 2024: THE DETAILS

The year’s edition features a concert in the port zone aimed at the younger members of the municipality.

The arrival of spring brings heralds the arrival of the one of the town’s most popular music festivals – Xàbia Folk. Created in 2002, the weekend-long musical feast brings together some of the finest musicians of traditional music, mostly from the Iberian Peninsula and the Mediterranean region but sometimes from further afield such as France, Morocco, Italy and the Balkans.

This year, it celebrates its 22nd edition over the weekend of May 10th to 12th not only with the usual performances on the Plaza de la Constitución and in the small chapel of Santa Llúcia but also with a children’s concert in Duanes de la Mar (the port zone) which aims to bring folk music to future generations.

XABIA FOLK 2024 · The Concerts

Friday 26th April, 8.00pm · Casa de la Cultura, Plaça del Baix

The presentation concert will be performed by KRAMA, a group led by Greek musician Spyros Kaniaris which is celebrating its 15th anniversary.

Friday 10th May, 12 noon · Pista Deportiva, Duanes de la Mar

This special children’s concert will be offered by PEP LÓPEZ I SOPARS DEL DURO on the sports courtyard opposite the Guardia Civil barracks in the port. Pep López has a long career spanning over 7000 performances, several successful albums, and many worthy awards, a musician who has inspired many. His show will aim to make the young and the old to dance in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy some great folk music.

Friday 10th May, 10.30pm · Plaza de la Constitución

The first main concert will feature SONS D’EMBAT, a group led by accordion player Pau barberà from Ontinyent and featuring musicians from Valencia, Cataluña and Andalucía who will be performing a playlist inspired by their different cultural influences.

Saturday 11th May, 7.30pm · Casa de la Cultura, Plaça del Baix

On Saturday evening, the duo ALICORNIO will be bringing the sounds of Valladolid to the coast, With Águeda Sastre on violin and Carlos Martín on guitar, bouzouki who will also be providing the voice, the group will playing mainly instrumental music.

Saturday 11th May, 10.30pm · Plaza de la Constitución

Emerging in 1976, the group ACETRE will be bringing the folk music of Extremadura to Xàbia, showcasing an evolution of traditional music of the region that has been influenced by Portuguese music. The female group has an expansive discography and has won awards both national and internationally, making them a must-see act of this year’s edition.

Sunday 12th May, 12 noon · Ermita de Santa Llúcia

As has long been tradition, the Xàbia Folk festival will be brought to a close on top of the small hill that overlooks the old town. The patio of the chapel of Santa Llúcia will host a performance by BRUEL, a duo that will be exploring the traditional songs and dances of Cataluña.

The councillor responsible for Culture, Mavi Pérez (CPJ), said that it is “a pride to bet on such a consolidated festival that represents us so much because it is a symbol of guarantee and reaffirmation of our roots.”

A special mention should also be made of the commitment of LA ROMÀNTICA DEL SALADER DE XÀBIA in driving the organisation of the this popular music festival and to the Department of Culture in Xàbia for supporting traditional music in the Valencian region and committing to showcasing both established and emerging talent in the folk scene, especially that performed by women.
