Which Sundays and bank holidays will shops in Valencian region be able to open in 2023?

They will be able to open on eleven selected Sundays and bank holidays whilst special tourist areas will be able to open during additional selected periods.

The Valencian Trade Observatory has approved the Sundays of 2023 when shops in the Comunidad Valenciana will be permitted to open.

According to the Trade Law of the Comunidad Valenciana, Sundays and bank holidays are considered non-working in general, but each year up to a maximum of eleven can be selected in which shops can open to the public to carry out their commercial activity.

For 2023, these days will be:

  • Sunday 8th January for the traditional winter sales.
  • Friday 7th April [Viernes Santos – Good Friday] due to tourism
  • Sunday 9th April [Domingo de Pascua – Easter Sunday] due to Monday 10th April being a bank holiday [Lunes de Pascua – Easter Monday].
  • Sunday 30th April due to Monday 1st May being a bank holiday [Día de Trabajadores].
  • Saturday 24th June [San Juan].
  • Sunday 2nd July for the traditional summer sales.
  • Sunday 8th October due to Monday 9th October being a bank holiday [Día de la Comunitat Valenciana]
  • Sunday 26th November for the Christmas campaign.
  • Friday 8th December [Immaculada Concepción] for the Christmas campaign.
  • Sunday 24th December for the Christmas campaign.
  • Sunday 31st December for the Christmas campaign.

Additional openings for ZGAT municipalities

In addition to the generally authorized Sundays and holidays, Law 3/2018, of February 16, of the Generalitat Valenciana establishes additional opening periods in those municipalities with declared areas of great tourist influx (ZGAT), such as Xàbia.

Thus, these special areas have declared a seasonal period corresponding to Semana Santa and Easter and in the summer period, may open to the public on the following periods:

Semana Santa/Easter and Summer

  • Sundays and bank holidays in the period between Domingo de Ramos (Palm Sunday) and the second Sunday of Easter, except May 1st, where appropriate.
  • Sundays and holidays in the period between June 15th and September 15th.

Semana Santa/Easter and from Summer to Christmas/Three Kings

  • Sundays and bank holidays in the period between Domingo de Ramos (Palm Sunday) and the second Sunday of Easter, except May 1st, where appropriate.
  • Sundays and holidays in the period between June 15th and January 5th, except October 9th (Día de la Comunidad Valenciana), December 25 (Navidad) and January 1 (Año Nuevo).
