Xàbia faced a tense afternoon on Thursday when two separate fires broke out less than 30 minutes apart in different parts of the municipality. The first blaze started just before 3.30pm near the Camí Vell de Pedreguer, on the Jesús Pobre road in the Les Valls–Montgó area, sending up a thick cloud of smoke that quickly drew the attention of nearby residents. Despite gusty winds, emergency crews, including firefighters, local police from Xàbia and Dénia, the Guardia Civil, the Protección Civil, the Cruz Roja, and Balcón al Mar volunteers, supported by a helicopter, managed to bring the flames under control in under half an hour, and by 7.00pm, it was fully extinguished.

Almost simultaneously, at 4.00pm, a second fire broke out on land near Calle Palencia and the Gorgos river, on the road to Benitatxell. Once again, the coordinated response of emergency teams proved decisive, with the fire stabilized within half an hour. For safety, the CV-740 was briefly closed between the El Paso roundabout and the Bon Amb Restaurant, reopening around 5.20pm, and by 7.00pm, firefighters confirmed the blaze was completely out.

Fortunately, both incidents ended without serious personal or material damage, but with two fires flaring up so close together, one can’t help but wonder: coincidence, or something else? Officially, the cause remains unconfirmed.
