The Nazarene Returns to the Heart of Xàbia

The image of Jesús Nazareno has returned to the historic-church of San Bartolomé in the heart of the historic centre of Xàbia. Known locally as the town’s “perpetual mayor,” the figure arrived on Sunday evening in a procession accompanied by hundreds of residents and devotees.

As tradition dictates, every Third Sunday of Lent the statue of Jesús Nazareno is carried in procession from the Calvario Hermitage down to the church in the historic centre, where it will remain until May 3rd.

Along the route, the image was accompanied by members of the Brotherhood of Jesús Nazareno, local authorities, representatives from festive organisations and many faithful followers. The procession also featured musical accompaniment, adding a solemn tone to one of the key events in the town’s religious calendar.

With this ceremony, Xàbia keeps a cherished tradition alive and marks the beginning of the historic festivities dedicated to Jesús Nazareno.
