Mayor of Xàbia, Rosa Cardona, and the councillor responsible for municipal services, Juanjo García (PP), visited the forest-cleaning and maintenance work being carried out by the Asociación de Bomberos Voluntarios in one of the municipality’s urban-forest interface areas. The work has been taking place specifically on Carrer Pic de Rebalçadors, near the Montgó area, where crews are working to reinforce the safety of homes located next to forested zones, particularly through the removal of dead pine trees.

Over the course of the day, a team of 15 volunteer firefighters worked to create and improve the preventive protection strip that separates dense vegetation from nearby villas and inhabited areas. Chainsaws, brush cutters and specialized equipment are being used to reduce vegetative fuel load, improve access in case of emergency and minimize the risk of fire spread.

The mayor personally thanked the team for their work and highlighted the importance of keeping these areas properly maintained, especially in towns like Xàbia, where the proximity of natural and urban spaces requires constant vigilance. She explained that this type of work forms part of the municipality’s strategy for forest-risk prevention and management, which is essential for ensuring the safety of residents and visitors throughout the year, and pointed out that it complements the work already being carried out by the local council in Granadella and La Falsia, as well as the actions undertaken by the regional Department of the Environment and Vaersa in areas near the Montgó Natural Park.
