After more than three decades of growth, the Xàbia Living Chess Festival, currently the only event of its kind recognized as a Festival of National Tourist Interest, has taken another step in nurturing young talent. Last year, the Loreto Mare de Déu Fiesta Commission launched L’Escoleta dels Escacs Vivents, a training programme for young children and teenagers that prepares them for the celebrated July performance. The initiative proved highly successful, providing participants with skills in theatre, music, dance, expression, vocal technique, and even chess.

This year, the Commission is offering a second edition of the school. Open to children born between 2010 and 2018, the programme is limited to 40 participants, divided into two groups meeting either Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings. Monthly sessions will culminate in intensive rehearsals in July, ahead of the big event. Enrollment costs €30 per year. Registration will take place on Friday 3rd October from 7.00pm to 8.00pm at the Commission’s headquarters in Calle Severo Ochoa in Duanes de la Mar, and interested parties must provide copies of the child’s ID, SIP card, and guardian’s ID required.

Now in its 27th edition, the Xàbia Living Chess Festival continues to blend live orchestral music, dance, and theatre with the creativity of more than 30 local schoolchildren, turning the chessboard into a living stage of stories and spectacle.
