National Geographic lists Cala Granadella as one of the best beaches in Spain
Located at the southern tip of Xàbia, Cala Granadella is known for its wild, dramatic landscape and its small beach sheltered by cliffs that protect its crystal-clear turquoise waters from the wind.
Xàbia has reaffirmed its place on Spain’s tourism map, with National Geographic once again naming Cala Granadella among the country’s most beautiful beaches for summer 2025. The publication also ranked it as the best beach in the Comunidad Valenciana.
Located at the southern tip of Xàbia, Cala Granadella is known for its wild, dramatic landscape and it’s small, 160-metre-long beach of white pebbles and rocks, sheltered by cliffs that protect its crystal-clear turquoise waters from the wind. The conditions make it ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, and even surfing. Due to its popularity, vehicle access is restricted during July and August to manage visitor numbers.
National Geographic describes Cala Granadella as “the champion of all the charms of the Marina Alta,” praising both its natural beauty and historical significance. From the beach, visitors can explore remnants of the past, including the Granadella Castle, traditional coastal buildings, old ochre mines, and historic lime kilns.
This latest recognition is not an isolated one. In April, National Geographic had already referred to Xàbia as “the Ibiza of the peninsula,” dedicating an in-depth feature to its coastline. The report highlighted key beaches and coves – Portitxol, Arenal, La Grava, Montañar, Cala Blanca, La Sardinera, and El Ministro – stretching across more than 20 kilometres of rugged shore between the capes of Cabo de San Antonio and Cabo de la Nao.
Cala Granadella also enjoys national recognition. The Comunidad Valenciana, with over 500 kilometres of coastline across Alicante, Castellón, and Valencia, leads Spain’s Blue Flag beach rankings, boasting a total of 153 and Cala Granadella stands out as one of the country’s finest.
This is not the first time the magazine has recognized Xàbia. In 2023, it ranked the town in its Top 10, and in 2022, it named Xàbia one of the most beautiful towns in Spain.
