LOCAL AND PROVINCIAL COUNCILS MAKE PROGRESS IN IMPROVING PORTITXOL ROAD

A representative from the provincial council met with local officials to inspect the stretch of the road to be addressed.

A section of the CV-742 Carretera del Portitxol between the roundabouts of Avenida del Pla (Supermercado Consum) and La Guardia (Supermercado Saladar), which is owned by the Diputación de Alicante, is to be made safer for pedestrians and cyclists after a meeting between the local council and the provincial council representative for Highways, Arturo Poquet.

Mayoress Rosa Cardona visited the section of the road with Poquet, accompanied by the councillor responsible for Public Safety, Juan Ortolá (CpJ), and the chief superintendent of the Policía Local de Xàbia, José Antonio Monfort, to discuss the details of the project that the provincial council has drafted which requires coordination between the two administrations to make a reality.

The project aims to improve road safety of pedestrians and cyclists along this section of the road which has a high concentration of traffic all year round since it is not only an access road to the urbanizations in the south of the municipality but also to the most popular bathing areas of Xàbia.

It will require a study of the land alignment that overlooks this stretch of road as well as the transfer of ownership if required to be able to carry out the project, processes that the local council will present to the affected owners.

The mayoress also conveyed the requests of the residents of the area to the provincial council representative as well as a request to consider an alternative to the plastic New Jersey barriers that have been placed along the edge of the section of Carretera del Portitxol between Cala del Francás and the Portitxol cross to deter illegal parking.
