FGV awards maintenance contract for TRAM d’Alacant Line 9 worth 2.73 million euros

Four-year agreement ensures seamless upkeep of signalling and communication systems after a decade of major upgrades on the Benidorm–Dénia route.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has awarded the contract for maintenance services for the signalling and operational telephony systems on Line 9 of the TRAM d’Alacant (Benidorm–Dénia). The contract is valued at 2,732,355.40 euros, including IVA.

The agreement will run for four years, with the option of a one-year extension. It will replace the current contract, which expires on December 31, and will take effect immediately afterward to ensure uninterrupted maintenance and proper operation of Line 9.

The contract covers the upkeep of Line 9’s signalling and operational telephony installations within the FGV network in Alicante. The goal is to keep all systems in optimal working and safety conditions, meeting the highest quality standards and complying with current regulations.

These installations include signalling components such as field elements (signals, track circuits, axle counters, point machines, track boxes and cabinets); cab and operator-station equipment (local control posts, interlockings, communication and power networks); and operational telephony systems such as control-center and station switchboards, consoles, and IP converter modules.

In recent years, FGV has carried out a wide range of upgrades on Line 9 of the TRAM d’Alacant, which links Benidorm and Dénia along a 50-kilometre route with 18 stations, with the aim of completely renewing and modernizing the line.

Work that began in 2014 continued until January 28 of this year, when through-service along the entire line was restored. The total investment exceeds 150 million euros.

Technical improvements and new infrastructure, along with the introduction of new electro-diesel rolling stock, have made it possible to maintain and enhance operating conditions, ensuring regularity and service quality in line with the standards of the rest of the FGV network in Alicante.
