Festival Ojos Rojos returns with a vibrant new edition in Jávea and Dénia

The seventh edition celebrates photography from Spain and Latin America, with Brazil as guest country

The press presentation for the 7th edition of the Festival Internacional Ojos Rojos of Spanish and Ibero-American Photography took place on Wednesday and event that will run from 24 October to 30 November 2025 in Jávea and Dénia. Taking part in the event were Mavi Pérez, Jávea’s councillor for Culture; festival directors Mili Sánchez and Mike Steel; photographer Susana Galbis; and Cristina de María-Tomé, head of communications.

During the press conference, the directors outlined the programme for this year’s edition, which will feature Brazil as the guest country and bring together an exciting selection of exhibitions, screenings, and photography-related activities.

Mike Steel spoke about the exhibitions opening in Jávea, including those at the new PFZ Gallery, which joins the festival for the first time this year. Meanwhile, Mili Sánchez presented the events planned for Dénia, along with a series of complementary activities.

It was also announced that this year’s Photographic Rally, organised by the Agrupación Fotográfica de Xàbia (AFX), will include a special screening at Cine Jayan of the documentary ‘Yo la que fui’, directed by Constanza Niscovolos and written by Niscovolos and Elizabeth Wendling. The film explores the life and work of renowned Argentine photographer Adriana Lestido and will premiere exclusively in Europe as part of the festival, in collaboration with AFX.

Photographer Susana Galbis also introduced her exhibition Cuando duermen las tortugas (When Turtles Sleep), which opens on Friday 24th October at Ca Lambert in Carrer Major Jávea. She highlighted how important events like Ojos Rojos are in giving visibility to personal and socially engaged projects.

Councillor Mavi Pérez praised the festival’s cultural value, noting that “Ojos Rojos not only puts Jávea on the international photography map, but also builds community, sparks reflection, and brings photography closer to everyone.”

The Ojos Rojos Festival will officially open in Jávea on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th October, with further inaugurations in Dénia on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th November.
